God never breaks His promises, it's we who harden our hearts, kick the grace of God that is upon our lives and walk out of those promises. Let’s listen to the entire story.

Recently I was reading a Scripture in the Bible that made me shudder.

Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ but now the LORD declares: ‘Far be it from me…. (1 Samuel 2:30)

God had promised Eli, who was serving as the priest of Israel, that he and his generations will always minister before Him as priests.

But now in this Scripture, God says: That will never happen!

What’s happening here? Isn’t that scary? It’s on my face telling me that God gave a promise but He didn’t keep it.

So, did God really break His promise?

Let’s look at the entire story.

The Bible says that Eli and his sons had no regard for the Lord (1 Samuel 2:12) and violated every command that God gave them as priests. Their disregard to the Lord was so much that they even abused the women who slept at the entrance of the temple. When God sent people across their path to correct them, they didn’t bother but continued in their stubborn ways. In Verse 28-29, God questions them saying, “Did I not choose you out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest? Why then do you scorn (kick at) my sacrifices and my offerings.”

God never breaks His promises

And He never can! His Word is forever established in heaven (Psalms 119:89). In fact, no power of hell can pull a child of God out from the promises that are his inheritance from God.

It’s we who kick it away!

While God remains standing to meet His Word, it’s we who walk away out of unbelief. God never breaks His promises, it’s we who harden our hearts, kick the grace of God that is upon our lives and walk out of those promises. We gaze at the world around us and allow our hearts to become so calloused that we forget the mercies of God that have carried us thus far.

God’s promise is success for everything we put our hands to – our career, our marriages, our children, our ministry. But when we overlook the goodness of God and harden our hearts, when we consistently refuse Godly counsel, when we regard and honor the world’s ways above God’s word, we cut ourselves off from every blessing that we were supposed to inherit.

So beloved, what has God promised you? When nothing seems to manifest, instead of blaming God, let us open our hearts and repent if we have kicked those promises away through our words and actions.

It’s never too late to come back.
